In the Khaggu Sarai locality of Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, a Shiv temple which had been closed for years was opened and cleaned by the police administration, the surrounding encroachment was removed with a bulldozer and a well built in the courtyard of the temple was also freed from encroachment and opened. The police administration team was running a campaign against electricity theft in a densely populated area when the officers noticed this temple, which when opened, revealed that there was a Shivalinga and the idol of Hanumanji installed inside it. On getting information, Pradeep Kumar Verma, who lives here, told that earlier people of Hindu community used to live here. We also lived here, we had 15-20 families and Muslim families also lived all around. There was harmony between the two but when the rebellion of 1978 happened, some people got scared. Some people left from here and when the atmosphere calmed down, they came back. We stayed here, we did not go. Then in 1993-94 we bought a house at another place, so we ourselves sold the house and moved away from there.
