Shoaib Akhtar on Jasprit Bumrah: Pakistan’s veteran cricketer Shoaib Akhtar remains in the news for his cricket analysis. He used to be one of the most lethal bowlers of his era. Now he has given a strange statement regarding Jasprit Bumrah. Undoubtedly, Bumrah currently remains one of the top bowlers in the world in all three formats of cricket, but Akhtar believes that Bumrah should be more active in limited overs cricket.
While discussing on a Pakistani podcast, Shoaib Akhtar said that Bumrah is a good bowler in shorter formats because he has a good understanding of length. According to Akhtar, Bumrah can be more effective in powerplay and death overs, but in Test cricket, a bowler has to bowl long spells, where length does not matter so much because the batsman is defending on most of the occasions. Let us tell you that Jasprit Bumrah’s Test career has been very excellent, till now he has taken more than 180 wickets in 42 Test matches.
I would have been in Jasprit Bumrah’s place…
Shoaib Akhtar praised Jasprit Bumrah, but according to him, Bumrah’s continuous injuries will not let him go much further in Test cricket. He said, “He is capable of taking a lot of wickets in Test cricket, but he did not prove to be very effective in the Test series against New Zealand. Sometimes it happens. All I want to say is that if Bumrah wants to play Test cricket, If he were to increase his pace, his chances of getting injured would increase. If I were in his place, I would focus on shorter formats.
