Due to heavy rains in many parts of the country, people’s pockets are getting affected. It is being told that the retail prices of tomatoes in Delhi have crossed Rs 100 per kg. In this way, adverse weather has made tomatoes a century-maker in the market.
Price up to Rs 100-120 per kg
According to a report by news agency PTI, the price of tomatoes in Delhi’s retail market reached Rs 100 per kg on Saturday. Tomato was being sold at the price of Rs 100 per kg at Mother Dairy’s retail outlet Safal yesterday. At the same time, in the unorganized retail market other than Safal outlets, the price of tomatoes has reached Rs 100 to Rs 120 per kg.
This is the price in government figures
However, the price of tomatoes has not yet reached Rs 100 in government figures. According to the data of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the daily average retail price of tomatoes reached Rs 93 per kg in Delhi on July 20. According to government data, the national average price of tomatoes on July 20 was Rs 73.76 per kg.
This is the reason for the rise in tomato prices
Adverse weather is being blamed for the rise in tomato prices. In a PTI report, a government official was quoted as saying that tomato prices are rising due to heavy rains after the heat wave. Due to heavy rains, the supply of tomatoes to retail markets from Himachal Pradesh has been disrupted. Due to this, tomato prices are rising rapidly. The official says that due to adverse weather, apart from tomatoes, the prices of potatoes and onions are also running high in Delhi.
Last year the prices had gone up to this level
Tomato prices rise every year during these months. Last year, the situation had become worse, the price of tomatoes had reached Rs 350 per kg in the retail market. After that, the government started selling tomatoes at discounted rates in many cities with the help of cooperative agencies. Customers of Delhi-NCR were also getting tomatoes at discounted rates at Mother Dairy’s Safal stores.
Latest situation of potatoes and onions in Delhi
If we look at the current prices of onions and potatoes in Delhi’s retail market, the price of onions reached Rs. 46.90 per kg on Saturday at Mother Dairy’s outlet in West Delhi. Potatoes were being sold at Rs. 41.90 per kg. According to government data, onions are being sold at Rs. 50 per kg and potatoes at Rs. 40 per kg in Delhi.
