Hockey India Paris Olympics 2024: Hockey India has raised questions on the quality of umpiring in hockey matches at the Paris Olympics 2024. This decision has been taken especially after the India vs Great Britain quarterfinal match at the Paris Olympics. Hockey India has objected that many bad decisions were taken during this quarterfinal match, which had an impact on the match. India has entered the semi-finals by winning this match through a shootout. There are many such points on which objections have been raised.
These are the 3 complaints
1. Video reviews were taken in an inconsistent manner. Especially the red card shown to the Indian player has reduced people’s trust in the review system.
2. Great Britain’s goalkeeper was being coached separately during the shootout.
3. Great Britain’s goalkeeper was using a video tablet during the shootout.
The first problem that has been raised is that the video umpire reviews were taken inconsistently. Especially the decision of showing the red card to the Indian player has raised questions on the video review system itself. Let us tell you that in the second quarter, Amit Rohidas was shown a red card and sent out of the field because he had intentionally hit the hockey stick on the face of the player of the opposing team. Due to this, Team India had to play with 10 players instead of 11 in the remaining match.
Another issue that has been raised is that the Great Britain goalkeeper was being coached during the shootout. Despite this, India managed to win the shootout 4-2. The third and last problem raised by Hockey India is that the Great Britain team’s goalkeeper was using a video tablet during the shootout.
Official statement of Hockey India
In an official statement from Hockey India, it was said, “These incidents have reduced the trust of players, coaches and fans towards the game. Hockey India demands a proper investigation of these cases so that the dignity of the game is maintained and there is no discrimination against any player or team in the next matches.” Let us tell you that the Indian hockey team will now face the winner of the Germany vs Argentina match in the semi-finals.
