Virat Kohli against spin average: It was just a year ago when Virat Kohli became the highest run-scorer in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He had scored 765 runs in just 11 ODI matches. But as soon as the year 2024 started, Virat’s bad form overtook him. Not only Virat but Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has also been seen getting stuck especially against spin bowling. If we look at the test statistics against spin of Indian batsmen after the year 2022, Virat Kohli is behind even Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja in this list.
Rohit Sharma’s bad figures
Captain Rohit Sharma has played a total of 18 matches since 2022, in which he has 1,104 runs in his name. But his figures against spin bowling are very bad. From the year 2022 till now, ‘Hitman’ has faced spin bowlers in 23 innings, in which 553 runs have come from his bat. During this period, his average has been only 30.72, but what is worse is that he has been out 18 times out of 23 innings against spin bowlers.
Virat Kohli has also been a laggard
Talking about Virat Kohli’s record against spin bowling, after the year 2022, he has scored 583 runs in 24 innings. During this period his average was 34.29 and he was out on 17 occasions out of 24 innings. Kohli is in such bad form that he was clean bowled by Mitchell Santner’s full-toss ball in the second Test against New Zealand. This year Kohli has been able to score only 245 runs in five test matches. His average in these 5 test matches was only 27.22.
Even Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja are ahead of Virat and Rohit against spin bowling. From the year 2022 till now, Kuldeep Yadav has scored 114 runs in 7 innings against spin bowling at an average of 38. Whereas Ravindra Jadeja has succeeded in scoring 605 runs in 23 innings at an average of 40.33.
