Rani Chatterjee On Actresses Struggles: Famous Bhojpuri actress Rani Chatterjee has been in the industry for 21 years. The actress made her Bhojpuri debut with the film ‘Sasura Bada Paisawala’ released in 2004. This film was a blockbuster. Now years after the success of the film, Rani has revealed how even after making a splash with her debut, it took her 8 to 9 years to make her mark in the Bhojpuri industry.
In an interview given to Baa, Rani Chatterjee talked about the existence of pay parity in the Bhojpuri film industry like the Hindi film industry. He said- ‘After Sasura Bada Paisawala, I did not have any films lined up. Manoj Tiwari’s payment was Rs 50 lakh. No one was even asking me. To become the highest paid heroine, I had to travel a journey of 8 to 9 years.
‘With a hit film, the hero’s payment increases a lot but…’
Rani Chatterjee further said- ‘They say that even in the Hindi film industry, actresses say that with a hit film, the hero’s payment increases a lot, but it takes a lot of time for the heroine to reach there. I felt it too. When I understood that such big heroines were working together, then why would they work with me. Anyway, they don’t consider me a heroine. I then started watching films outside. Means outside films in which Manoj Tiwari and Ravi Kishan were not there. This was the atmosphere that the film starring Manoj Tiviri and Ravi Kishan is a Bhojpuri film. Forget the rest.
‘When a film is made with a new hero, the line of films starts forming’
The actress told- ‘I got the first call from Rajkumar Pandey ji for the film Chhaila Babu. He told me that he wants to do a film Rani but Manoj Tiwari is not in it. I was sleepy, had come tired from the shoot. I said why I will do the film only if Manoj Tiwari is there. So he said that if that is the case then let’s meet. There was a discussion that I will work only with Manoj Tiwari. Whereas I did not have any film with him in my hands. When I signed a film in which there was a new hero, I got a queue of films. This happened after 2005.
