Tom Alter was called the Englishman of Bollywood. Tom, an expert in acting with tall height and a loud voice, worked in many films from 1970 to 2017.
Because of his looks, he mostly got the roles of British officers or he was seen playing some foreign character. However, most of the viewers remember him as a villain.
Along with Hindi films, Tom also worked in Assamese and Bengali Malayalam films. In his 37 years of career, he acted in more than 100 films. Let us tell you that Tom was counted among the greats of theatre.
Tom’s appearance was not Indian, but he was completely Indian at heart. He was very good at speaking Hindi as well as Urdu. Urdu used to be his identity.
Apart from this, Tom has also worked as a journalist. From 1980 to 90, he also worked as a sports journalist. He had taken Sachin’s interview when Sachin was about to debut in cricket.
Tom got the acting bug after watching Kaka’s film ‘Aradhana’. He also considered Rajesh Khanna as his idol.
Tom did many films after debuting with the film Charas. Apart from films like Kranti, Gandhi, Aashiqui and Veer Zara, he also played the role of Mahaguru in the children’s favorite show Shaktimaan. That is why he was also awarded the Padma Shri in 2008 for his incomparable contribution to Hindi cinema.
