Vinesh Phogat is contesting the Haryana Assembly elections 2024 on Congress ticket. Vinesh is contesting from Julana assembly seat of Jind district. BJP candidate Captain Yogesh Bairagi is in the fray against him. A total of 12 candidates are trying their luck on Julana assembly seat.
Vinesh Phogat had announced her retirement after being disqualified before the women’s 50 kg final at the Paris Olympics 2024. After this, on September 6, Vinesh joined the Congress party along with Olympian wrestler Bajrang Punia.
From where is Deepak Hooda contesting the elections?
Deepak Niwas Hooda is contesting the Haryana Assembly elections 2024 on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. Deepak Hooda is contesting from Meham assembly seat of Rohtak district. Congress candidate Balram Dangi is contesting against him. Apart from this, Vikas Nehra is also in the fray on Aam Aadmi Party ticket. A total of 19 candidates are trying their luck on the Meham assembly seat.
These athletes have contested elections in Haryana
Vinesh Phogat’s cousin Babita Phogat had contested the Haryana Assembly elections 2019 from Dadri Assembly seat on BJP ticket. But she lost the election. Former Indian hockey team captain Sandeep Singh also contested the 2019 assembly elections from Pehowa assembly seat on BJP ticket and won by a margin of 5,314 votes. Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt also contested the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections from Baroda seat on BJP ticket. But he lost the election. In the 2020 by-election, Yogeshwar again contested on BJP ticket and again had to face defeat.
