Importance of Chhath Puja (Chhath Puja 2024 Significance)
Chhath Puja is a major festival of Hindus. It is called the great festival of folk faith. If we talk about the beginning of celebration of Chhath festival i.e. its history, then according to mythology, the beginning of Chhath Maha Parva Chhath is related to Satyayuga and Dwapar Yuga. Ram-Mata Sita had performed Chhath Puja- According to mythology, after killing Ravana and 14 years of exile, Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya. But Ram had the sin of killing Ravana. To free oneself from this sin, Rajasuya Yagya was performed on the orders of sages. Then Mugdal Rishi called Lord Ram and Mother Sita to his ashram for the Yagya. According to the advice of Mugdal Rishi, Mother Sita worshiped Sun God and observed a fast on the Shashti Tithi of Kartik Shukla. Ram and Sita stayed in the ashram of Mugdal Rishi for six days and worshiped the Sun God. In this way, the history of Chhath festival is also related to the Ramayana period.
The history of Chhath festival is related to Mahabharata- The importance of Chhath festival is also described in Mahabharata. According to this, when Pandavas lost their entire kingdom in gambling, Draupadi observed Chhath fast. Due to the effect of the fast and the grace of Sun God, the Pandavas were able to get back their lost kingdom.
Karna started Surya worship- According to another story related to Mahabharata, Karna was a great devotee of Lord Surya. Every day at sunrise, he used to stay waist-deep in water for hours and offer water to the Sun God. Therefore, it is believed that the worship of Sun God started with Karna and it was only with the blessings of Sun God that Karna became a great warrior.
