According to the scriptures, Shraadh Paksha starts from the full moon of Bhadra month and continues till Amavasya of Ashwin month. It is believed that Yamraj, the god of death, frees the ancestors in Shraadh Paksha, so that they can go to their relatives and accept the offerings. It is believed that worshipping in Pitru Paksha brings blessings of ancestors.
Meaning of Shraadh, Pinddaan and Tarpan
Predictor and horoscope analyst Dr. Anish Vyas said that in Pitru Paksha, the dead ancestors of the family are remembered with reverence, this is called Shraddha. Pinddaan means that we are donating food for the ancestors. Tarpan means that we are donating water. In this way, these three works are important in Pitru Paksha. In Pitru Paksha, green grass should be donated to cows in a cowshed and money for their care.
Feed the fishes in a pond by making balls of flour. Dogs around the house should also be fed rotis. Along with this, food should also be kept on the roof of the house for crows. Feed food to the needy people. Donate worship material to a temple. Bhagwat Geeta should be recited these days.
five portions of food
Predictor and horoscope analyst Dr. Anish Vyas said that Pitru Paksha is about to begin. It is believed that during this time our ancestors come to earth and bless us. Performing the Shradh of ancestors in Pitru Paksha is considered very important. Our ancestors come to us through animals and birds and consume ancestral food through cow, dog, crow and ant.
At the time of Shraddha, a portion of food is also kept aside for the ancestors, only then the Shraddha ritual is completed. While performing Shraddha, five portions of the food offered to the ancestors are kept aside for cow, dog, ant, crow and gods.
The dog is a symbol of water element, the ant is a symbol of fire element, the crow is a symbol of air element, the cow is a symbol of earth element and the god is a symbol of sky element. Thus, by feeding these five, we express our gratitude towards the five elements. Only the cow has all the five elements together. Therefore, serving the cow during Pitru Paksha is especially fruitful.
