GST: The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), set up to catch GST theft in the country, has caught cases worth more than Rs 2.01 lakh crore in the last financial year. This figure has almost doubled in a year. According to the annual report of DGGI, about 46 percent of GST theft cases are related to non-payment of tax, 20 percent are related to fake input tax credit and 19 percent are related to taking benefits through wrong means.
Tax evasion of Rs 2.01 lakh crore detected in 6,084 cases
GST Intelligence said that they have detected 6,084 cases of tax evasion of Rs 2.01 lakh crore in the last financial year. According to this, the most tax evasion is being done in online gaming and BFSI in the service sector. Apart from this, tax evasion is also being done in iron, copper, scrap and alloy in the goods sector. GST Intelligence had caught Rs 1.01 lakh crore in 4,872 cases in the financial year 2022-23. In the financial year 2023-24, Rs 26,605 crore came in the form of voluntary tax payment.
Banking, financial services and insurance sectors are also ahead in GST evasion
According to the report, the highest GST evasion of Rs 81,875 crore was seen in the online gaming sector in the last financial year with 78 cases. Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector was at second place with 171 cases of evasion of Rs 18,961 crore. 343 cases of tax evasion of Rs 2,846 crore were detected in contract services and 22 cases of tax evasion of Rs 40 crore were detected in the pharma sector. 1,976 cases were detected in iron, copper, scrap and alloy, in which GST of Rs 16,806 crore was evaded.
Pan masala, tobacco, cigarette and bidi makers are evading taxes
According to GST Intelligence, paan masala, tobacco, cigarette and bidi makers are on the third position with 212 cases of tax evasion of Rs 5,794 crore. After this comes plywood, wood and paper. In this, tax evasion of Rs 1,196 crore was detected in 238 cases. 23 cases of Rs 1,165 crore have been detected in electronic items and 235 cases of Rs 315 crore have been detected in marble, granite and tiles. In the last financial year, the Central GST Zone has also detected 14,492 cases of tax evasion of Rs 35,377 crore.
