Vietnamese Hackers Targeting WhatsApp Users: A large number of people in India use WhatsApp. A new type of scam has emerged in which Indians are being targeted. Actually, Vietnamese hackers are targeting Indian WhatsApp users with the help of a technical malware called Maorrisbot. A cyber security company has also warned that hackers are doing e-challan scams.
According to the CloudSEK report, a malware named Maorrisbot is being used by hackers living in Vietnam. The firm says that this is a special type of technical Android malware through which Indian citizens are being trapped in the name of fake traffic e-challans. These e-challans are being sent to users through WhatsApp.
This is how hackers are fooling you
Scammers are sending fake e-challan messages to people and asking them to pay it. Apart from the challan notice, URL and APK file are also attached in these messages. Scammers try to trick the victim into tapping on this link and downloading the APK file. As soon as WhatsApp users accidentally download this file, they get access to the phone and can harm the victim in many ways.
The cyber security company says that scammers are using proxy IPs and keeping their identity hidden by using low-transaction profiles. It has been claimed that about 4500 devices have been damaged through Maorrisbot malware. Apart from this, hackers have now stolen more than Rs 16 lakh from the victims. According to the information, WhatsApp users of Gujarat and Karnataka have been affected the most.
