Coal imports increased by 5.7% in the April-June quarter
Recently, it was reported that India’s coal imports have increased in the first quarter of the financial year 2024-25. In the April-June quarter of the current financial year, India’s coal imports have increased by 5.7 percent to 75.26 million tonnes, which was 71.16 million tonnes in the same quarter of the previous financial year 2023-24. In the month of June of the current financial year, there has been a jump of 6.59 percent in coal imports.
It makes me very sad whenever I read the news about a rise in India’s coal imports. Actually, we should have no imports at all. We have the 4th largest reserves of coal in the world.
We should auction more coal mines and move to self-certification. Speed is key.
