Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam: Tirupati temple of Andhra Pradesh has become the center of a strange controversy these days. The new government led by Chandrababu Naidu has accused former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy that the ghee used in the laddus given as prasad at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam was adulterated. Animal fat and fish oil were allegedly being mixed in it. After this, the old supplier has been removed and a new one has been given a chance.
Now the biggest question that arises here is that Tirupati temple, which is counted among the richest temples in the country, earns about 500 crore rupees every year from laddu prasad alone. In such a situation, what was the problem that it was buying cow ghee from AR Dairy Foods of Tamil Nadu at the rate of only Rs 320 per kg. Now the contract for supplying ghee to the temple has been given to Karnataka Milk Federation, which is giving ghee at the rate of Rs 475 per kg.
Laddu Prasad is made from 500 kg of ghee every day
To make about 3 lakh laddus daily in Tirupati temple, about one ton gram flour, 10 tons sugar, 700 kg cashews, 500 kg sugar candy and about 500 kg ghee are used. The weight of each laddu should be 175 grams. They also have to go through a food testing lab. Its history is about 300 years old. Till the year 1984, wood was used to make prasad in the kitchen (Potu). Now it is made on a gas stove. Laddu has also received the GI tag in the year 2009. The process of making it is called Dittam.
Three types of laddus are offered in the temple
There are three types of laddus offered at the temple. Asthanam laddu is prepared only during special festivals. Kalyanotsavam laddu is given to devotees who participate in Arjit Seva. Proktam laddu is given to all visitors.
Amul said- we never supplied ghee
Meanwhile, Amul India has said that they never supplied ghee to Tirupati temple. Amul India said on Friday that reports have surfaced on social media that Ghee (Amul Ghee) was sent to Tirupati temple from our side. The company said that all these reports are rumours. Our ghee is made after stringent tests. There is no scope for adulteration in it. We have an ISO certified production plant to make Amul Ghee. The milk used to make ghee also comes to our collection centre. The quality of milk is also tested here. We make all our products following all the standards of FSSAI.
