Sushil Kumar Phone Call to Aman Sehrawat: Paris Olympics 2024 is going to start from 26th July. This means that now less than six days are left. In such a situation, Indian athletes are busy with their preparations. There are a total of six wrestlers in the Indian wrestling team in Olympics 2024. Out of which only one is a male wrestler. Whose name is Aman Sehrawat. Aman Sehrawat has a special story of qualifying for the Olympics. Due to which he got the ticket for Olympics 2024.
Aman has put up his ‘Qualified Athlete’ certificate on the wall of his room
For Aman Sehrawat, not much has changed, but everything has changed. India’s only male wrestler at the Paris Olympics, Sehrawat still lives with two other wrestlers in a small room under the gallery of the Chhatrasal Stadium. On his wall, 20-year-old Aman has put up the ‘Qualified Athlete’ certificate he received at the World Olympic Qualifiers in Istanbul in May. This certificate is the new decoration in his room.
Sushil Kumar’s phone call changed the fate of Aman Sehrawat
Sehrawat was disappointed after failing in the Asian Qualifiers in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. At that time he was worried about his future. Then he got a call from two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar. Sushil Kumar, who is currently in jail, is still a respected figure among wrestlers. Sushil advised Aman to avoid being defensive and maintain his attack.
Aman Sehrawat talks about the phone call with Sushil Kumar- “After the Asian qualifiers, I was under a bit of pressure as I had returned without a quota and there were expectations from me. I had some doubts. That’s when I spoke to Sushil Pahelwan ji. There were about three weeks left for the World Qualifiers and I was training here at Chhatarsal. He told me not to be too defensive and my aim was to fight for the full six minutes. He also said that I should not be indecisive. If you are forced to defend then defend but then wait for the first opportunity and then attack with full force. He told me not to be indecisive and most importantly to remain an attacking wrestler.”
This is how you got the ticket for Olympics 2024
This advice from Sushil Kumar proved to be a turning point for Aman Sehrawat. In the semi-finals of the World Qualifiers, Sehrawat performed brilliantly against Chongsong Han of North Korea and won 12-2. This was India’s first and only men’s quota for the Paris Olympics.
