Ministry of Civil Aviation: A new airline is now going to enter the Indian aviation sector dominated by Indigo and Air India. The Civil Aviation Ministry has approved this new airline. Its name will be Shankh Air. Shankh Air will now have to get approval from DGCA before starting its service. This airline will make Lucknow and Noida of UP its stronghold.
Shankh Air will become the first airline of Uttar Pradesh
According to the website of Shankh Air, it is going to be the first airline of Uttar Pradesh. The company plans to start its service to all the major cities of the country. The company will start its service not only inside Uttar Pradesh but also outside on routes with high demand and less flights. As per the approval received from the Civil Aviation Ministry, the company will also have to follow the rules of FDI and SEBI. The NOC given by the ministry is valid for three years.
Indigo and Air India rule the aviation market
Indigo and Air India currently rule the civil aviation market of India. Indigo has a market share of 63 percent. It is the country’s largest airline. On the other hand, Air India is also expanding rapidly after coming under the control of Tata Group. Its merger with Vistara is going to happen in November this year. Next year, Air India has also planned the merger of AirAsia India and Air India Express. Due to this, its dominance will increase further. Other companies are facing difficulty in surviving in front of these two big players. Go Air, Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways have shut down. On the other hand, SpiceJet is also facing financial crisis. SpiceJet’s market share has also decreased by 75 percent to just 2.3 percent.
These new players will intensify the battle in the market
However, new players like Akasa Air and Fly91 are also trying hard to make their place in the fast growing aviation sector. Akasa Air had the support of the late Rakesh Jhunjhunwala. At the same time, Harsha Raghavan and Manoj Chacko are standing behind Fly91. Apart from this, Air Kerala led by Afi Ahmed also got approval recently. Now after the announcement of Shankh Air’s entry, the battle to grab market share among the new players may intensify.
