Sakat Chauth fast story
According to the legend, once Lord Shiva asked Kartikeya and Ganesha who could relieve the sufferings of the gods. On this both of them declared themselves qualified for this work. Lord Shiva said that the one who returns first after circling the earth will do this work.
Kartikeya went for parikrama riding on his vehicle peacock. During this, Ganeshji thought that his vehicle is a rat, which will take more time to revolve around the entire earth. Then he thought of a solution and circled his parents Shiva and Parvati seven times and sat back. When Kartikeya returned, he declared himself victorious.
Lord Shiva asked Ganesha why he did not revolve around the earth. Ganeshji replied that the entire world exists at the feet of the parents. Lord Shiva was pleased with his answer and blessed him to relieve the sufferings of the gods. Besides, it was also said that the person who worships him with devotion and offers Arghya to the moon on the day of Chaturthi, all his troubles will go away.
