Sachin Tendulkar Reaction on Vinesh Phogat Disqualification: The last few days have been very difficult for India’s star wrestler Vinesh Phogat. Now the great cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has also come out in support of Vinesh. Let us remind you that before the final match of the women’s wrestling 50 kg category, Vinesh’s weight was found to be 100 grams more than the prescribed standards, due to which she was disqualified from the Paris Olympics. Now Sachin has expressed his displeasure in this regard and said that Vinesh is fully entitled to the silver medal.
Sachin’s displeasure
Sachin Tendulkar came out in support of Vinesh and said, “Every sport has rules and those rules should be seen in context and should be revisited at times. Vinesh Phogat had made it to the final without any cheating. Her disqualification due to weight came before the final match, so I think not giving her the silver medal would be sheer dishonesty and such rules do not make sense.”
Vinesh Phogat stunned everyone by defeating the defending Olympic champion in the first round itself. After that, she won the quarter-finals and finals without any cheating. In such a situation, why should she not be given at least a silver medal? As per the rules, she was not allowed to fight again in the final, but depriving her of even the silver medal seems completely unfair.
Such rules make no sense
Sachin Tendulkar also said in his statement that if an athlete is caught taking drugs or cheating, then he should be disqualified but nothing like this has happened in Vinesh’s case. He said, “If an athlete is caught taking drugs or cheating on policy grounds, then it would be right to disqualify him. But Vinesh has defeated all her opponents without any cheating, so she deserves the silver medal.”
