Qualcomm has finally launched its latest flagship chipset, Snapdragon 8 Elite. This chipset is ready to power the next generation Android flagship smartphones. The company has also introduced a new naming scheme with this chipset, which is similar to its ARM-based X Elite laptop chips.
Qualcomm’s new processor launched
Like Snapdragon laptop chips, the 8 Elite also has an Oryon CPU, which includes a custom eight-core structure. In this structure, 2x prime cores work at a speed of 4.32 GHz and 6x performance units work at a speed of up to 3.53 GHz. It also has support for an industry-leading 24MB L2 cache and 5,300MHz LPDDR5X RAM.
This new chip is built on TSMC’s 3nm process and it claims to have 44% improvement in CPU performance, 45% more power efficiency compared to its older version chipset. In terms of graphics, this Adreno GPU from Qualcomm brings a 40% increase in performance and power savings as well as better ray-tracing performance.
Special features of the new chipset
Qualcomm’s new chip is also the first mobile SoC to support Unreal Engine 5.3 and the Nanite virtualized geometry system. On the AI side, the new Hexagon Neural Processing Unit (NPU) ensures that the chipset can deliver up to 45% faster performance on AI related tasks. Qualcomm is bringing its AI engine with multimodal Gen AI support.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite also has an advanced Image Signal Processing (ISP) that is ready to deliver great output with the new Hexagon NPU. You get better HDR, more natural-looking skin tones, sky colors and better autofocus performance.

Qualcomm has also added chip-level photo and video semantic segmentation and video object erasure functionality. Overall, the camera quality of the phone coming with this processor can see more natural colors, less saturation and better output than before.
In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon 8 Elite features the Snapdragon X80 5G modem – the first 5G modem with 6x downlink carrier aggregation and AI-based mmWave range extension. Qualcomm claims that peak download is rated at 10Gbps and maximum upload at 3.5Gbps.
In which smartphones will the new chipset be available?
The new modem is paired with the FastConnect 7900 mobile connectivity system, which is the first chipset to combine Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and ultra wideband connectivity in a single 6nm chip. The Snapdragon 8 Elite is set to power upcoming Android flagship smartphones from Asus, Honor, iQOO, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Samsung, vivo, Xiaomi and others.
