After struggling in the first five attempts, Neeraj has secured the second position by throwing the javelin 89.49 meters in the last throw. Only Anderson Peters of Grenada was above him, who covered a distance of 90.61 meters in his last throw.
Let us tell you that Neeraj Chopra was able to throw the javelin only 82.10 meters in the first attempt. In the second throw, he covered a better distance and threw the javelin 83.21 meters. Till the fifth throw, 83.21 meters remained his best throw, but he made a blast in the last attempt and secured second place. He measured a distance of 89.49 meters in his sixth and last attempt. This is also Neeraj’s season best throw because before this his best throw came in the Paris Olympics in 2024, where he measured a distance of 89.45 meters.

Talking about the Diamond League, Diamond League events are organized at four places in a year. These events are held in Doha, Paris, Lausanne and finally Zurich. Neeraj Chopra finished second in the Doha Diamond League by throwing the javelin 88.36 meters. But just before the Olympics 2024, he did not participate in the Paris Diamond League due to fitness. The athlete who finished on top gets 8 points, while Neeraj got 7 points for finishing second. Similarly, the points also keep decreasing as one falls one place down.
That means Neeraj Chopra has again got 7 points for finishing second in Lausanne. Now his total points are 14 and in terms of total points, he is jointly in third place with Julian Weber. Anderson Peters is in first place with 21 points, while Jacob Wallace is in second place with 16 points. Julian Weber and Neeraj Chopra are in third place with 14 points.
When will the final be held?
Let us tell you that the fourth round of Diamond League is still remaining, which is to be held in Zurich on 5 September. After the Zurich round, the final match will be played between the top-6 athletes on the basis of points. The Diamond League finals will be played in Brussels on 13-14 September. The final of javelin throw will also be played on one of these dates.
Won silver medal in Paris Olympics
About two weeks before the success of Lausanne Diamond League 2024, Neeraj Chopra had raised the flag of India in Paris Olympics 2024. Neeraj won the silver medal by throwing the javelin 89.45 meters away. Only Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan was ahead of him, who not only won the gold medal by covering a distance of 92.97 meters but also broke the Olympic record. With this, Neeraj became the first Indian athlete to win gold and silver medals in any 2 Olympic Games in any athletics event of the Olympics.
