Vasuki
Lord Shiva has worn Vasuki Naag around his neck. Vasuki Naag was made into a rope during Samudra Manthan. According to Puranas, Vasuki Naag is a very huge Naag. He is the servant of Lord Shiva, therefore, worshipping him on Nag Panchami fulfils all wishes.
Takshak
During the Mahabharata period, due to the curse of Shamik Muni, Takshak Naag bit King Parikshit. To avenge his father’s death, Parikshit’s son Janamejaya performed a yagya to destroy all the snakes. Due to the boon of Brahmaji, Aastik Muni completed this yagya and saved the lives of the snakes. This day was the fifth day of Sawan. This is the reason why the festival of Nag Panchami is celebrated on this day.
Karkotaka
Nagraj Karkotaka was a Gan of Shiva. Karkotaka Naga praised Lord Shiva to save him from the snake sacrifice of Janamejaya. There is also a tradition of worshipping Karkotaka on Nag Panchami.
Padma
It is believed that Padma Nagas used to rule the Nemish region near the Gomti river. Later they settled in Manipur, who are called Nagavanshi in Assam.
Kulik
Kulik Naag is considered to be from Brahmin clan. According to the belief, it is related to Brahma Ji.
