KL Rahul Out or Not Out: The first match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy is being played in Perth. In this encounter, the Indian team won the toss and decided to bat first, but now the wicket of KL Rahul has come into discussion. Rahul scored 26 runs, but when he was declared out LBW, despite the review, the umpire’s decision is being heavily criticized on social media. Was Rahul out or was he given out wrongly, what is the dispute over?
Why was there controversy over KL Rahul?
By the 22nd over, the Indian team had scored 47 runs at the loss of 3 wickets. Mitchell Starc came to bowl in the 23rd over and a catch appeal was made against him on the very second ball of the over. The ground umpire declared Rahul not-out, but when the review was taken, the TV umpire gave the decision considering only two angles. There was no wrinkle on Rahul’s face because he knew that the sound had come due to the connection between the bat and the pad.
Indian fans are expressing anger on the internet and social media because the off-side angle was not shown during the review. The off-side angle could have revealed whether the spike on the snickometer came from ball-bat connection, or from the collision of bat and pad. Bad umpiring is being heavily criticized that how can a decision be given without looking at all the angles and without any conclusive evidence?
Was KL Rahul not out?
In the video going viral on social media, it can be seen that the spike on the snickometer had come even before the connection of the ball-pad. Meanwhile, after the dismissal of KL Rahul, veteran Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar presented a new theory. Manjrekar says that it was clear that there was a connection between the ball and the pad, due to which there was bound to be a spike on the snickometer. On the other hand, if the ball had touched the bat, there should have been two spikes on the snickometer. Whereas in reality there was only one spike, which probably came from the connection of bat and pad.
