Mokshada Ekadashi fasting story
In Gokul Nagar, a king named Vaikhanas dreamed that his father was in hell. Then the king got upset. He told the story to the scholar-yogi Parvat Muni that his father was talking about liberating him from hell in his dreams. The sage told that he had committed sin in his previous birth due to which he had to go to hell.
He asked the king to take a pledge to fast on Margashirsha Ekadashi and give the virtue of fasting to his father. Which will liberate his father. The king along with his family observed a fast on Ekadashi and offered his blessings to his father.
Due to this his father got salvation and while going to heaven he said to his son, may you be well. Saying this he went to heaven. Therefore, it is believed that by observing this fast the ancestors get salvation and heaven.
