Mokshada Ekadashi 2024: There are two Ekadashi tithis every month. Two Ekadashi fasts will be observed in the month of December also. The first Ekadashi of the month of December is Mokshada Ekadashi. According to the Panchang, this Ekadashi falls on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha or Agahan month.
Mokshada Ekadashi is considered the most important among all Ekadashi. The reason for this is that on the day of this Ekadashi, Lord Shri Krishna had given Gita Updesh to Arjun in the battlefield of Mahabharata. Therefore, every year the festival of Mokshada Ekadashi and Geeta Jayanti (Gita Jayanti 2024) is celebrated on the same day. This year the fast of Mokshada Ekadashi is on 11 December 2024.

According to the legend, a king named Vaikhanas once had a dream that his father was suffering torture in hell. To attain peace and salvation of his father’s soul, the king reached Parvat Mahatma’s ashram and asked for a solution to liberate his father. Mahatma told that his father had done bad deeds in his previous life due to which he has to face tortures in hell. Mahatma asked the king to observe fast and worship on Mokshada Ekadashi falling in Margashirsha Shukla Paksha, due to which his father could get salvation. The king observed the fast and worship of Mokshada Ekadashi as per the rituals, due to which the king’s father attained salvation and the king also got blessings.
