What did you say on Vinesh Phogat’s Olympic medal controversy?
Actually Vinesh Phogat had reached the finals of 50 kg weight category in the wrestling event of Paris Olympics. When the day of the final match came, he was disqualified not only from the final but also from the Olympic Games for being 100 grams more than the prescribed weight limit. The whole of India was deeply hurt by this news.
On this Manu Bhakar said, “It is very sad when an athlete is playing at such a high level and his gold medal match is going to happen tomorrow. Then suddenly a news comes which breaks everyone’s heart. Such a situation. We cannot make any kind of preparation to face it, I know that situation must have been very difficult for Vinesh. I know that she is very strong from inside.”

Recently the recommended list of athletes for the Khel Ratna Award was released. Millions of people were surprised by the absence of the name of Manu Bhaker, who won 2 medals for India in the Paris Olympics. Many questions were raised and even the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) had requested the Sports Ministry to include Manu’s name in the list.
In this regard, Manu Bhakar said, “Khel Ratna is a very honorable award, which will be a matter of pride for me to receive. I am saddened, but my priority is to do the best in my sport. Being a citizen of the country and an athlete. It is my duty to win as many medals as possible for the country. I had hoped for one year that I would get the award, but whatever happens next will be good.”
