Cyber Frauds: Dr Ruchika Tandon, a resident of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, who is an Assistant Professor at SGPGIMS, was digitally arrested for seven days by cyber thugs and suffered a loss of Rs 2.81 crore. The caller of Dr Ruchika Tandon said that he was calling from the telecom sector regulator TRAI and that as per the orders of the police, her phone has been ordered to be shut down because many complaints have been filed in the Cyber Crisis Cell of Mumbai regarding harassing messages from her mobile number.
These cyber thugs took Rs 2.81 crore from Dr. Ruchika Tandon by fraud but if you get such a call, do not pay any attention to it. If a caller calls you on your mobile phone and says that he is calling from the Department of Telecommunications or TRAI and threatens to shut down your mobile number, then beware of such a caller immediately because it can be a cyber fraud. The Department of Telecommunications has warned the common citizens about such calls several times in the last few months and has also issued advisories. The Department of Telecommunications said that cyber thugs can commit cyber crime or fraud by stealing people’s personal information through such calls. Telecommunication Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has also warned people by tweeting two days ago.

The Department of Telecommunications cautioned citizens by saying that it has received complaints that users are receiving calls in which the caller, claiming to be an officer of the Department of Telecommunications, threatens to shut down their mobile numbers. The cyber thug also intimidates users by saying that their mobile numbers have been used for objectionable activities. The Department of Telecommunications has warned against WhatsApp calls coming from foreign numbers such as (+92-xxxxxxxxxx). On such calls, the caller can harm users by claiming to be a government official. Through such calls, cyber criminals try to collect personal information of users to commit financial fraud.
The Department of Telecommunications has clarified that no one is allowed to call mobile users on its behalf. The Department of Telecommunications has also advised citizens to be cautious of such calls and not to share any personal information with the caller. Also, if such calls are received, they have been asked to report on Chakshu-Report Suspected Fraud Communication Facility on the Sanchar Saathi portal (www.sancharsaathi.gov.in). Users can also register a complaint against such callers on the 1930 helpline number.
