India Squad Border Gavaskar Trophy: There is no sign of any less problems for the Indian team before the start of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. On one hand, captain Rohit Sharma is going to miss the first test to spend time with his family, his wife Ritika Sajdeh gave birth to a son on 15 November. On the other hand, Team India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel has said that nothing clear can be said about Shubman Gill’s injury right now. Meanwhile, Khalil Ahmed has also returned to India, whom Team India had taken to Australia as a reserve player.
Let us tell you that the Indian team had selected Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini and Khalil Ahmed as reserve players for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. But now Khalil is complaining of muscle pain and he felt discomfort even while bowling in the nets. In such a situation, Yash Dayal has been included among the reserve players in his place. Yash was earlier included in the squad for the Test series against New Zealand and after that was selected for the T20 series against South Africa. Meanwhile, due to Khalil Ahmed’s pain, Dayal took a flight directly from Johannesburg to Perth.
A BCCI source was quoted by PTI as saying, “The left-arm fast bowler has been replaced with a similar bowler because the Indian team has to prepare for Mitchell Starc. Dayal had earlier played against the India A team in a simulation match. Was going to play, but he was sent on South Africa tour. If Khalil was not able to bowl, then the right option was to send him back.”
It is not clear yet whether Khalil will play in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 or not. Let us remind you that Delhi Capitals had released Khalil, so it will be interesting to see which franchise bids on him. On the other hand, Yash Dayal, who replaced him, has been retained by RCB.
