T20 World Cup 2024 Pitches Rating: The T20 World Cup 2024 was played under the hosting of America and West Indies. Some matches of the tournament were organized here to promote cricket in America. A new temporary stadium was built in New York, USA for the T20 World Cup, named Nassau County Cricket Stadium. Drop-in pitches were used in this stadium, which was heavily criticized.
The pitches of Nassau County Cricket Stadium were criticized a lot by the legends. No high scoring match was seen on this ground. A match was also played between India and Pakistan on this ground. The drop-in pitches here were prepared by Adelaide’s curator Damien Huff. However, matches were conducted on these pitches without any testing.
The pitches were quite uneven, due to which the batsmen had to face a lot of difficulties in batting. However, the pitch proved to be good for the bowlers. The average score of the first innings in the eight matches in New York was 107.6.
ICC gave a shocking rating
Now after a long wait, ICC has finally released the rating of the pitch. Ranjan Madugalle, David Boon, Jeff Crowe and Richie Richardson were the four referees for the New York matches. Out of the 8 matches played on the New York pitches, including India vs Pakistan, 6 matches have received ‘satisfactory’ rating. Whereas two matches played here, including India vs Ireland, received ‘unsatisfactory’ rating. Apart from this, the referee has also disliked the pitch used for the match between Sri Lanka and South Africa.
In the Super 8, the pitch of the match played between India and Afghanistan in Barbados got a ‘satisfactory’ rating, while only the surface of the final match was given a ‘very good’ rating.
Let us tell you that out of the total 52 matches of the tournament played in June, the pitches of only 3 matches were considered ‘unsatisfactory’, the third of which was the semi-final match played between Afghanistan and South Africa in Trinidad where Afghanistan were all out for 56 runs.
