The Indian plane coming from Kathmandu to Delhi was hijacked and taken to Kandahar. We all know this but what really happened during those days of the hijack, this story is shown to you by this Netflix web series. And it shows it very well and shows it in such a way that once you start watching this series, your mind gets hijacked and comes out of this hijack only after the series ends.
Story:
Everyone knows this story. This is the story of the hijacking of an Indian plane which was coming from Kathmandu to Delhi. How IC 814 was hijacked and taken to different places and then finally the plane reached Kandahar. How all the passengers on this plane were rescued, except one, how the agencies dealt with this situation, this entire story has been shown in this web series.
How is the series?
Veterans like Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor, Arvind Swami, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Divyendu Bhattacharya are present in one room. They are part of the same scene, this is amazing in itself, bringing so many senior talents together shows that a lot of hard work has been put into making this series.
It looks like this is a series of 6 episodes and each episode is of 30 to 40 minutes but it is so fast that you don’t fast forward or look away, no unnecessary heroism is shown anywhere. Nothing has been done in the name of cinematic liberty which looks foolish. The hero is not forced to be a hero, this series moves in a controlled manner. The layers of each character are revealed, the importance of each character is revealed.
The background of every incident is told, the real footage of that time has also been used well at some places. By watching this series, you get to know a lot about this hijack which you do not know. This series is a perfect binge watch, if you start watching it, you will not stop until you finish it even if you know the ending and this is the specialty of this series.
Acting
There are many great actors in this series, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor, Manoj Pahwa, Arvind Swami, Kumud Mishra, Divyendu Bhattacharya, all of them are amazing actors and have done a great job. Among the army of veteran actors, Vijay Verma shines in the role of a pilot. Vijay’s specialty is that he knows where to show how much heroism and where to underplay, here he plays the character with intensity, and shows another unique example of his acting.
Vijay has created such an image of his that wherever his name is associated, there is hope of good content. Patralekha is excellent in the role of an airhostess. What an airhostess of a hijacked plane goes through can be understood by watching this character. She has to save her life but is more concerned about the lives of her passengers. She has to clean dirty toilets as well as the blood of the passengers. Patralekha has played this character brilliantly. Slowly she is also creating a different position for herself.
Dia Mirza looks good in the role of a journalist. Amrita Puri is very good in the role of a sharp journalist. Rajiv Thakur surprises in the role of a hijacker and his work is also amazing.
Direction
This show has been made by Anubhav Sinha and his experience is clearly visible here. His research, his hard work, bringing together so many senior actors and making a series whose story is already known. But you have to show something in it that surprises the audience, a good director can do this. Anubhav gets full marks here, he has been completely successful in making the series tight. Overall, watch this series at any cost.
