IC 814: The Netflix series ‘IC 814 Kandahar Hijack’ has been mired in controversies since its release. This series is based on the Kandahar hijacking of December 1999. It is directed by Anubhav Sinha. The series is facing a lot of criticism for changing the names of terrorists to non-Muslim names. There is also a demand to ban the series. Amidst all this, Captain Devi Sharan, who was the real pilot of the hijacked plane, has now revealed two mistakes made by the makers in this series.
Real pilot caught two mistakes in IC 814 series
Let us tell you that the character of pilot Devi Sharan in the series is played by actor Vijay Verma. At the same time, Devi Sharan revealed in an interview to The Telegraph that the makers have not only made mistakes in the names of the terrorists but they have also made two more mistakes. Devi Sharan told that, “ The first mistake is that in the series it is shown that the Foreign Minister (Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh) salutes us but he did not salute us in real. He just praised our efforts with this gesture.”
Devi Sharan further said, “The second mistake in the series is that I did not fix the plumbing lines myself. They (Taliban officials) had sent a worker. I took him to the aircraft hold because he did not know where the lines were.’
‘IC 814: Kandahar Hijack’ is based on a real incident
Let us tell you that ‘IC 814: Kandahar Hijack’ is based on the painful hijacking of a flight to India in December 1999. This flight took off from Kathmandu and was headed towards New Delhi. During this time it was hijacked. The passengers and crew were held hostage for seven days. The hijackers demanded the release of three high-profile terrorists Maulana Masood Azhar, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, and Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar. As a result of the negotiations, three terrorists were released in exchange for the release of the hostages. One died in this hijacking.

At the same time, the series is facing a lot of criticism due to tampering with the names of the hijackers by the producers. In view of the opposition to the series, a representative of Netflix was summoned by the government to New Delhi on September 2.
