Dark Chocolate Benefits in Diabetes : As soon as I hear the name of chocolate, I feel like eating it, my mouth starts watering. If you want to create a mood or convince someone who is upset, chocolate comes in handy. However, due to high sugar content in chocolate, diabetic patients cannot eat it. However, a new research has claimed that dark chocolate reduces the risk of diabetes. A study conducted in America has found that eating dark chocolate at least 5 days a week can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by 21%. This study has been published in BMJ journal.

Dark chocolate is beneficial in diabetes
A natural compound called flavonol is found in dark chocolate, which is a panacea for heart health and helps in reducing the risk of diabetes. Whereas this is not seen in milk chocolate due to the high amount of sugar and milk in it. Researchers collected data from three large American studies. In which details of 1,92,208 participants are included. All of them were healthcare professionals and nurses who had no history of diabetes, heart disease or cancer. In this, his chocolate eating habits were observed for 25 years. The effects of dark and milk chocolate were seen in it.
What do the results of the study say?
In this study, it was found that people who ate any kind of chocolate at least 5 times a week, the risk of type 2 diabetes was found to be reduced by 10%. Whereas, the risk of this disease was found to be reduced by 21% in those who ate dark chocolate.
At the same time, no significant reduction in the risk of diabetes was found in those who ate milk chocolate. Every extra serving of dark chocolate in a week reduced the risk of diabetes by 3%. At the same time, eating more milk chocolate also increased weight, whereas dark chocolate had no effect on it.

Why is dark chocolate so beneficial?
Minerals, iron, magnesium and zinc are found in abundance in dark chocolate. Anti-oxidants are found in cocoa present in dark chocolate, which are called flavonoids. 70–85% cocoa is present in 100 grams of dark chocolate. It contains 46 grams of carbohydrates, 43 grams of fat, 24 grams of sugar, 11 grams of fiber and 8 grams of protein, 230 mg magnesium, 12mg iron and 3.34mg zinc. 100 grams of dark chocolate contains 604 calories.
