Kedarnath Bhattacharya was born on 23 September 1957 in Kolkata. His father Pashupati Bhattacharya was also a singer and composer. After entering the film world, Kedarnath was named Kumar Sanu. Kumar Sanu married a girl named Rita in 1980 and had three children named Jiko, Jassi and Jaan. They got divorced in 1994 and later Kumar Sanu married Saloni, with whom he has two daughters.
Who gave the first chance to Kumar Sanu?
In 1983, Kumar Sanu started his singing career with Bengali songs. In 1986, he sang in a Bangladeshi film Teen Kanya. His first Bollywood film with songs was Hero Hiralal (1988). In 1989, Ghazal Samrat Jagjit Singh introduced Kumar Sanu to Kalyanji. It was Kalyanji who suggested Sanu Bhattacharya to name him Kumar Sanu because his idol was Kishore Kumar.
He got a chance to sing in the film Jaadugar (1989) in Kalyan-Anandji’s composition. Kumar Sanu met Gulshan Kumar during that period and luckily he was given the responsibility of singing the songs of ‘Aashiqui’. The film Aashiqui was released in 1990, the songs of which created a sensation all over India and even today those songs are kept in the playlist of most romantic songs.
