Tax Evasion: After the implementation of GST in the country, it was believed that now it would be very difficult to evade taxes. But, people have found new ways to evade GST. GST Intelligence, formed to stop this, has performed amazingly so far. GST Intelligence has caught tax evasion of Rs 1.2 lakh crore since the year 2020. To stop GST evasion, the central and state governments have launched a special scheme to catch fake registrations of companies.
Action is being taken against those taking fake input tax credit
The Finance Ministry said on Tuesday that the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has detected tax evasion of about Rs 1.2 trillion by fraudsters using fake input tax credit (ITC). GST Intelligence has caught many masterminds who took fake input tax credit. Their syndicate spread across many states has also been hit. According to the Finance Ministry, GST Intelligence has caught 59 thousand fake companies stealing Goods and Services Tax. Along with this, 170 people have also been arrested. Further investigation is being done in these cases.
Central and state governments are also catching fake registrations
In the conference of the heads of GST enforcement, it was told that the central and state governments have also caught fake registrations at their own level. This two-month special scheme is going on in the whole country. It has been started from 16 August. The governments are trying to take strict action to make billing secure in the GST ecosystem. This action is being taken against fake bills.
A balance has to be struck between ease of doing business and enforcement of rules
In this conference, Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra said that we have to strike a balance between ease of doing business and implementation of rules. We have to remove fake companies from the system. He also stressed the need to keep an eye on the masterminds who take fake ITC so that strict action can be taken. Sanjay Malhotra said that the recent changes implemented in GST returns like GSTR-1A will help in efforts to tackle GST theft.
