The government is going to take a big step amid increasing cases of cyber fraud in the country. The government has made preparations to blacklist those people who buy SIM in the name of others or send fraudulent messages. They will be blacklisted considering them a threat to cyber security. Not only this, such people may also be banned from taking a new connection for 3 years. This can be a big step towards stopping cyber crime.
Government preparing to take action
cnbc-voice According to a report, the government’s telecommunications department has started making a blacklist. Names of such people will be included in this list, who buy SIM in the name of others or send fraudulent messages. People whose names will appear in this blacklist, their existing SIM cards will be blocked and they will not be able to buy any new SIM card for 6 months to 3 years.
Answer will be sought by issuing notice
Before putting the name in the blacklist, the government will notice the person concerned and seek answers. They will have 7 days to respond. Keeping in view the wider public interest, a person can be included in the blacklist even without giving any notice.
Continuous steps are being taken to control cyber crime
The government is continuously taking steps to control cyber crime. A few days ago, to spread awareness, telecom companies were instructed to run caller tune containing steps to prevent cyber crime. This campaign will run for 3 months. Apart from this, the government had told in Parliament that it has ‘blocked’ 6.69 lakh SIM cards and 1,32,000 IMEI numbers till November 15, 2024 in an effort to control cyber crimes.
