After remaining sluggish last month, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have again increased their purchase of Indian shares. Only one week of the new month has passed and the figure of FPI investment in Indian shares has reached almost Rs 11 thousand crore.
So much money came in Indian shares
According to data from the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL), FPIs have bought Indian stocks worth Rs 10,978 crore this month till September 6. Friday, September 6 was the last trading day of the first week of this month. After a two-day holiday on the weekend, the market will now open for a new week on Monday, September 9.
Total investment crossed Rs 19000 crore in September
With this, the total investment of foreign portfolio investors in the Indian market during this month reached Rs 19,087 crore. Apart from Indian equities, the total figure also includes investment figures in debt, hybrid and debt-VRR. FPIs who invested heavily in debt last month are investing less money in debt this month.
Last month, I was putting money in debt
According to the data, FPIs have invested only Rs 94 crore in debt so far in the month of September. Last month, FPIs invested Rs 17,960 crore in debt. However, in the month of August, FPIs invested only Rs 7,320 crore in Indian shares. In August, the net investment of FPIs including equity, debt, hybrid and debt-VRR was Rs 25,493 crore.
The highest investment came in July
FPIs were initially selling heavily during the last month. However, their trend reversed later in the last week, which still seems to be continuing. If this trend continues till the end of the month, then this month can prove to be the month of highest investment by FPIs in the current financial year. During this financial year, FPIs have invested the highest amount of Rs 32,365 crore in Indian shares in July. In the first two months of the current financial year, April and May, FPIs were sellers of Rs 8,671 crore and Rs 25,586 crore respectively. In June, FPIs had invested Rs 26,565 crore in Indian shares.
