Babar Azam Number 1 ODI Batsman: In the latest rankings released by the ICC, Babar Azam has retained the number-1 position in the ODI batting rankings. On the other hand, Indian opener Shubman Gill has been struggling for runs for some time, yet he remains at third place. Now a Pakistani legend has got angry over the ICC’s ranking system. Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has made a scathing attack on the ranking system in a video released on his YouTube channel.
Let us tell you that Babar Azam is currently at the top in the ODI batting rankings, Indian captain Rohit Sharma is second, Shubman Gill is third and Virat Kohli is at fourth place. Despite Babar Azam being at the top, Basit Ali objected and said, “When I saw the ICC ODI batting rankings, Babar Azam was at the top, Rohit Sharma was second, Shubman Gill was third and Virat Kohli was fourth. I did not even think of going further in the list because I did not see Travis Head and Rachin Ravindra in them.”
Does ICC have enmity with Babar Azam?
Basit Ali believes that the ICC does not want Babar Azam to perform well. He said, “I think the ICC wants that Babar Azam does not perform well. Babar will be very happy to be the number-1 batsman in the ODI rankings. Who gives this ranking? On what basis are Babar Azam and Shubman Gill at the top of the rankings.”
Basit Ali says that in the 2023 ODI World Cup, Rachin Ravindra, Travis Head and Quinton de Kock performed brilliantly and also scored many centuries. But none of these three are in the top-10 of the ODI batting rankings. The Pakistani legend also said that Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan have also scored centuries for Pakistan, but they are also being treated unfairly in the rankings.
