Flood Fire Rescue Plan: Rain has wreaked havoc from north to south in the country and the situation in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat seems to be getting out of control. The central government has taken steps to prevent major loss of life and property during natural disasters like floods in India. Apart from natural disasters, this is another step in the steps taken in the last few years to prevent major loss of life and property during disasters like fire or earthquake. Know how much fund has been given to which state.
These six metro cities will get Rs 2500 crore
The high level committee has selected 6 metro cities of Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, West Bengal and Maharashtra. These are Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune… More than Rs 2500 crore has been sanctioned for these through 6 projects. Under this, 6 projects costing Rs 2514.36 crore have been approved for urban flood management.
Money will also be released for Assam, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu
The High Level Committee has also approved three proposals with a total expenditure of Rs 810.64 crore under the scheme for expansion and modernization of fire services for Assam, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Apart from this, proposals with an expenditure of Rs 1691.43 crore from 11 states were already approved.
What did Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh get
Along with this, the committee has approved a total expenditure of Rs 150 crore for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. A project proposal for GLOF risk mitigation in these states has also been approved. The GLOF risk mitigation project will help these four states get the necessary impetus to take necessary mitigation measures to deal with GLOF risks.
Last week, on Thursday, i.e. 25th July, a meeting was held in the Home Ministry in which all these decisions were taken under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Earlier, on 27th November 2023, the High Level Committee had also approved the proposal for a project with integrated solutions for flood management in Chennai for the state of Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 561.29 crore.

This year, State and National Disaster Response Force received huge funds
- The Central Government has released Rs 6348 crore to 14 states during the current financial year under the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). This is known as the State Disaster Response Fund.
- Rs 672 crore has been released to 6 states under the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF).
- Apart from this, an amount of Rs 4265 crore has been released to 10 states under the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
- The Central Government has allocated a total of Rs 5000 crore for this scheme under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
Some more decisions of the High Level Committee
The Committee also approved the proposal for Yuva Aapda Mitra Yojana (YAMS) for NDRF at a cost of Rs 470.50 crore. 1300 trained Aapda Mitra volunteers as master trainers and 2.37 lakh volunteers, mainly drawn from Bharat Scouts and Guides, will be deployed in 315 most disaster-prone districts of the country. These volunteers, mainly from NCC, NSS, NYKS and BS&G, will be trained in disaster preparedness and response.
One lakh community volunteers have already received training
Under the Aapda Mitra Yojana, about 1 lakh community volunteers have been trained for disaster response in 350 most disaster-prone districts of the country. Let us tell you that under the Aapda Mitra Yojana, these skilled and trained ‘Aapda Mitras’ and ‘Aapda Sakhis’ are playing a big role in helping the local administration. Emphasis has been laid on preparing the local place and community as first responders to deal with any disaster. This is in accordance with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which practical training is also being given to the community to provide immediate help during a disaster.
