Sixes banned in cricket: Southwick and Shoreham Cricket Club located in England has banned players from hitting sixes. There is a very interesting story behind this ban. This decision has been taken when people living around the ground filed a complaint citing damage to their property. Apart from this, cases of injuries to people who came to watch the match and cases of damage to vehicles are increasing.
To get rid of this problem, this cricket club has made a strange rule. Whenever a player hits the first six, it will be considered as a warning and the team whose player has hit the six will not get any runs. On the other hand, players will be declared out for the sixes hit after that. The club’s treasurer has also taken cognizance of this matter.
Giving information about this decision, Mark Broxup, treasurer of Southwick and Shoreham Cricket Club, said that they have made this rule to avoid expenses due to insurance claims and legal proceedings. He said, “In old times cricket was played in a calm environment. But after the advent of T20 and limited overs cricket, more aggression has started appearing in this game. In fact, an 80-year-old man living near the stadium said that today’s players have become so enthusiastic that even the stadium is becoming too small for them to hit sixes.
Players are furious
After the introduction of this new and strange rule, the players are continuously protesting. A batsman said that hitting sixes is the identity of this game, how can it be banned. It was also claimed that efforts are being made to remove the excitement from cricket matches. On the other hand, a player said that nowadays everyone is only concerned about health. Insurance companies are earning a lot of profit from sports clubs due to the losses caused by the stadium.
