Deepak Chahar was an important player for the Chennai Super Kings team last season. For IPL 2025, Chennai has retained Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Mathisha Pathirana, Shivam Dubey and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. When Deepak’s name came up for bid in the IPL 2025 mega auction, Chennai Super Kings did not have enough funds and Mumbai Indians included him in their team with a bid of Rs 9 crore.
Deepak Chahar has now broken his silence about this and shared his feelings after leaving Chennai Super Kings. While talking to Sports Tak, he told that he had a deep connection with CSK and especially the support of Mahendra Singh Dhoni meant a lot to him. Deepak said, “Mahi Bhai has always supported me, and hence I wanted to stay in CSK. But when my name came on the second day of the auction, I understood that CSK has less funds, and then “They also bid up to Rs 9 crore, whereas they had a total budget of Rs 13 crore.”
Deepak Chahar also told that he had mentally prepared himself for the situation that this time he would not return to Chennai Super Kings, especially when Chennai’s budget was already over. He said, “Last year my name came first, so it was easy to return to CSK, but this time the situation was different.”
Deepak Chahar has played 76 matches for Chennai Super Kings. In these 76 matches, Deepak has taken 76 wickets at an economy of 7.91.
