Chhath Puja 2024: The four-day Chhath Mahaparv has started with Nahay Khay on Tuesday, 5 November 2024 and the atmosphere all around has become Chhath-like. The tune of Chhath Geet is being heard from home to the ghat.
Chhath is a major festival of Hindu religion, which is celebrated from Chaturthi to Ashtami Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha. Chhathi Maiya and Surya Dev are worshiped during Chhath which lasts for four days. Among the four days of Chhath, the second day is the most important, because the Nirjala fast of Chhath begins from this day. It is called Kharna. This year Kharna is on 6th November 2024.

On the day of Kharna, the devotee remains fast for the whole day. In the evening, at an auspicious time, she starts Nirjala Vrat by taking Kharna kheer Prasad and sweet bread. Today, on 6th November, on the day of Kharna, there has been a coincidence of many auspicious yogas. The auspicious time of Kharna Puja will be from 5:29 pm to 7:48 pm. During this time only, the fasting person should take Kharna Prasad (Kheer-Roti).
Kharna Puja Vidhi (Kharna 2024 Puja Vidhi)
The second day of Chhath festival is called Kharna. On this day the house is thoroughly cleaned and purified. After taking bath, the devotee wears new clothes and offers Arghya to the Sun God. After this she starts preparing for the puja.
Kharna prasad is prepared by burning mango wood in an earthen stove. Kheer made of milk, rice and jaggery is made as Prasad on this day. Sweet bread is also made. First of all this Prasad is offered to Chhathi Maiya and then the fasting person does Kharna with this Prasad. Then it is distributed among all the members of the house.
