BigMuscles: Earlier this year, many protein powder brands came under investigation. They were accused of making false and exaggerated claims to sell their products. Most of the allegations were leveled against BigMuscles. Now, on a customer’s complaint, the court has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the company.
Big Muscle’s product was reported to be the worst
Popular hepatologist Cyriac AB Phillips, known as The LiverDoc, had released a report against protein powder manufacturing companies. After this, investigations were started against many protein brands. In the report, the protein powder sold by Big Muscle was considered the worst. In fact, the brand has been embroiled in similar controversies regarding incorrect labeling for some time now.
The customer had got the lab test done, added sugar was found
Meanwhile, Rahul Shekhawat of Mumbai discovered that the protein powder he bought online contained misleading information and potentially harmful ingredients. He bought Big Muscle Nutrition’s protein powder in February 2023, trusting its claims of 100 percent performance and no added sugar protein. However, he contacted the company after reading online articles questioning the health benefits of whey protein. The company also sent him the lab report, but when he got it tested from another lab, sugar was found in the product.
Consumer Forum found the allegations to be true and imposed fine
He sent a notice to the company, and on not receiving a response, Rahul Shekhawat filed a complaint in the Consumer Forum. Despite the notice, the company failed to appear before the forum. On the basis of the independent lab report, the Consumer Forum found the allegations against the company to be true. It also ruled in favour of Shekhawat. He was awarded Rs 1.1 lakh as compensation for mental agony and a full refund for the misleading product.
