Sunil Bharti Mittal: Sunil Bharti Mittal-led Bharti Enterprises has achieved another milestone. Bharti Enterprises has announced a $4 billion deal to buy stake in BT Group. With this, it has joined the list of big companies like Tata Group, Mahindra and TVS who have bought British companies.
Bharti Enterprises buys 24.5% stake in BT Group
BT Group PLC was formerly known as British Telecom. It is a British MNC. Its headquarters is in London. This company operates in about 180 countries. In Britain, it is the largest company providing fixed line, broadband and mobile services. It also provides subscription TV and IT services. Bharti Enterprises has bought 24.5 percent stake in the company.
Tata Tea had made a splash by buying Tetley which was bigger than itself
Earlier, Tata Group had created a stir by buying Tetley, Tata Steel by buying Corus and Tata Motors by buying Jaguar Land Rover. Tata Tea had bought Tetley in February 2000. This deal was discussed all over the world. Tata Tea was a smaller company than Tetley at the time of the deal. Tetley was the second largest tea brand in the world. It is considered a part of the beautiful history of the Indian corporate world. Tata Motors buying JLR from Ford was also a great opportunity. Now for the first time, JLR cars will also be manufactured in India.
Mahindra had acquired BSA and TVS had acquired Norton
Apart from this, Welspun India led by BK Goenka bought 85 percent stake in Britain’s CHT Holdings in July 2006. With this, the Goenka Group got a premium brand like Christy. This also opened the doors of Europe for the group. In the year 2016, Mahindra & Mahindra bought UK’s premium two-wheeler brand BSA Company. In April 2020, TVS also acquired Norton Motorcycles.
