Glenn Maxwell on Virender Sehwag: Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has made a scathing attack on India’s legendary opening batsman Virender Sehwag. Maxwell has claimed in his book ‘The Showman’ that in IPL 2017, Sehwag had ensured that he could not play any role in the selection of the playing eleven of Punjab Kings, whereas Maxwell used to be the captain of Punjab in 2017.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, Glenn Maxwell said, “When I met Sehwag during the Test series, he told me about making him the captain of Punjab Kings. We had played together, but after retirement, he is playing the role of mentor of Punjab. We also talked about how the team would be run. I felt like we were becoming friends.”
Name’s coach, Sehwag was running the team.
Glenn Maxwell made a huge claim and also said that J Arun Kumar was appointed batting coach in the 2017 season. Within a short time it became clear that Arun Kumar was the coach in name only, but Sehwag was running the team. Maxwell said, “Other coaches and players used to ask me what was going on. I never found myself able to give them a clear answer.”
Even when Maxwell put forward the idea that all the coaches should form a group on WhatsApp to discuss, Sehwag rejected the idea outright. According to Maxwell, when the Punjab team was all out for just 73 runs against Rising Super Giants in the last league stage match of IPL 2017, he had offered to take the responsibility of accountability in the press conference. But when the press conference took place, Sehwag put the entire blame for the team’s poor performance on Glenn Maxwell.
never talked to after that
Glenn Maxwell tells that after that conference he messaged Virender Sehwag and told him how hurt he was by his statement. Maxwell had stopped considering Sehwag as his idol that day. In response to all this, Sehwag said, “I don’t want a fan like you.” Maxwell further said, “After that we never talked. I knew that my time with this team was over and I had also informed the owners about this.”
