Samsung Electronics: The ongoing strike at Samsung Electronics’ Chennai plant does not seem to be resolved even after 16 days. A day earlier, it was reported that the company had given a ‘no work no pay’ notice to the striking employees and also warned them of termination. Now Samsung said on Tuesday that we think well of our employees. We pay them almost double the salary compared to other companies. However, the employees are adamant on increasing their salary to Rs 36,000.
Samsung said- giving salary 1.8 times the industry standard
Samsung issued a statement saying that we take full care of all the interests of the employees in the Sriperumbudur plant near Chennai. Welfare of employees is our priority. We have been paying higher salaries to our staff since the beginning. Our salary is 1.8 times the industry standard. No manufacturing company in this area is paying such salary to its staff.
Salary in Samsung plant is around 25 thousand rupees
On the other hand, the employees on strike under the banner of Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) are demanding that the company recognize their union. Also, the salary should be increased to Rs. 36,000 per month in the next 3 years. The employees have also demanded better working timings. According to them, Samsung is paying its staff Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000 per month. On the other hand, Business Standard quoted an industry body as saying that the average salary in the area is Rs. 16,000. It varies according to big and small companies.
