Afro-Asia Cup: After a gap of almost two decades, there are plans to restart the Afro-Asia Cup, which will feature white-ball matches between Asia XI and Africa XI. The African Cricket Association (ACA) discussed the resumption of the tournament at its annual conference, in which a six-member interim committee was also formed. The objective of the committee is to strengthen the ACA and create more competitive opportunities for African players at the international level.
Virat-Babar and Rohit-Rizwan can be in the same team
If this tournament happens again, it will provide a rare opportunity to see Indian and Pakistani players playing in the same team. Who currently play against each other only in ICC tournaments. This is a big excitement for the spectators, because players like Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Rizwan can play in the same team.
No response from Asian Cricket Council
“The Afro-Asia Cup is important not only for sport but also from an economic point of view. There is tremendous enthusiasm among the players and spectators on both continents,” said Tavenga Mukhlani, interim president of ACA and chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket. Although there has been no official response from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on the event yet, there is a strong possibility that the tournament can be restarted.
History of Afro-Asia Cup
The Afro-Asia Cup has been played only twice so far, in 2005 in South Africa and in 2007 in India. A three-match ODI series was played in the 2005 Afro-Asia Cup, in which one match was abandoned due to rain and after the remaining matches, the series was tied at 1-1. Whereas, in the 2007 tournament, Asia XI won all three matches. This tournament was planned in Kenya in 2009, but it could not be organised. Now, almost twenty years later, its organization is being seriously considered once again.
