ITR Filing Update: The Income Tax Department has termed the news of extension of the date of Income Tax Return Filing as fake. Through a social media post, the Income Tax Department has advised taxpayers to check the official portal or website of the Income Tax Department for all updates.
The Income Tax Department said on the social media platform X, it has come to our notice that a clipping of Gujarati newspaper Sandesh News is going viral on social media claiming extension of the date of filing income tax returns till August 31, 2024. The Income Tax Department said, this is completely fake news. The Income Tax Department has advised taxpayers on the social media post to check the official portal or website of the Income Tax Department for all updates.

The Income Tax Department has also asked taxpayers to be cautious of refund messages. The Income Tax Department said that a person lost Rs 1.50 lakh after clicking on a fake income tax refund message. The department said that he was asked to visit a fraud app and after clicking on it, his phone got hacked and money was deducted from his bank account.

The Income Tax Department has asked taxpayers to immediately report such messages http://Indiaincometaxindia.gov.in/pages/report-phishing.aspx. Helpline numbers have also been provided which are as follows – 18001030025/18004190025.
