Alzarri Joseph Fined for abusing Umpire: West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has been fined 25 percent of his match fee for violating ICC rules. This case pertains to the first ODI match of West Indies vs Bangladesh in which Joseph was found using abusive language. He has been found guilty of Article 2.3 of the rules, under which no player is allowed to use obscene language on the field. Apart from reduction in match fees, he has also been given one demerit point.
This incident occurred when Alzarri Joseph had an argument with the fourth umpire before the start of the match. In fact, before the start of the match, the umpire had asked Joseph not to go to the pitch wearing shoes with spikes. Meanwhile, the Caribbean fast bowler abused the umpire and also used abusive language. Joseph himself has accepted these allegations, due to which there was no need for any hearing in the matter. Let us tell you that these allegations were made against Joseph by the ground umpire Kumar Dharmasena, Leslie Reifer, third umpire Asif Yaqoob and fourth umpire Gregory Brathwaite during the match.
For violating the rules at Level 1, the minimum punishment can be reprimand and the maximum punishment can be a fine of 50 percent of the match fee. Along with this, one or two demerit points can also be given. Well, due to this incident Joseph came into limelight but it did not have any major impact on his performance. In the first ODI match, he gave away 67 runs in 10 overs and took 2 wickets. West Indies won this match by 5 wickets, in which Sherfan Rutherford played an inning of 113 runs equipped with 7 fours and 8 sixes.
