Marburg virus disease (MVD) commonly known as ‘bleeding eye virus’. It is caused by Marburg virus. The average mortality rate associated with this virus is approximately 50%. The natural host of the virus is Roussetus aegyptiacus. Which is a species of fruit bat. Marburg virus usually spreads in two ways. It spreads from bat to human or from human to human through blood or bleeding in the body of the infected person.
The most common symptom of bleeding eye virus is high fever. Fever may be accompanied by severe headache and malaise. Its common symptoms are
myalgia
severe watery diarrhea
stomach ache
nausea vomiting
rash without itching
hemorrhagic manifestation
In severe cases of bleeding eye virus, central nervous system involvement is seen, where symptoms of confusion, irritability and aggression can be seen in patients.

Timely treatment is very important
Marburg virus disease is usually diagnosed through tests such as ELISA or RT-PCR. When the disease is confirmed. So treatment should be started immediately with rehydration therapy and symptomatic management. There are no specific antiviral drugs currently available to treat MVD. Some preventive measures can help protect individuals from contracting the disease from a bat or an infected person.

If you are visiting or working in mines or caves where bats live, make sure you wear protective clothing. It is important for MVD patients to remain in isolation for 21 days to prevent further spread.
