Ricky Ponting Advice To Steve Smith And Marnus Labuschagne: The teams of India and Australia are playing a five-match Test series under the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The first Test of the series was played in Perth, in which the visiting team India won by 295 runs. Star batsmen Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, who are called the backbone of Australian batting, appeared flop in the Perth Test. Now Ricky Ponting advised both the batsmen to learn from Virat Kohli.
Ponting told Smith and Labuschagne to trust their game like Virat Kohli. In both the innings of Perth Test, Smith scored 00 and 17 runs respectively. Apart from this, Marnus Labuschagne had scored 02 and 03 runs in both the innings respectively.
Speaking on the ICC review, Ponting said, “Marnus appeared more hesitant than all the batsmen in the Perth Test. Yes, there was high quality bowling on a difficult wicket, but he has to find a way to turn it around.”
Further giving the example of Virat Kohli, Ponting said, “Virat trusted his game and he looked like a different player in the second innings compared to the first innings.”
Let us tell you that while playing in Perth Test, Virat Kohli was out for only 05 runs in the first innings, but then in the second innings he scored a brilliant century, which was his 30th Test century.
Ponting further said, “He (Kohli) moved away from trying to compete with the opposition and focused on his strengths. Marnus and Smith need to do the same. Find your path and show strong intentions.”
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting further said, “You have to find a way to take risks and put them on them because you know the Bumrahs of the world… they will not give you the opportunity to score runs easily. When they do that , so you’ve got to be ready to attack them and put some pressure on them.”
