If we look at the figures, India is on top in terms of manufacturing and exporting generic medicines. Cheap medicines for dangerous diseases like Hepatitis B, HIV and Cancer are made in India only. If we talk about Africa only, India fulfills 50% of the demand for generic medicines there. Apart from this, India exports 40 percent of the total requirement of generic medicines to America and 25 percent to Britain.
India’s dominance will be this much by 2047
If we look at the data of platforms like CPHI, India’s capability in this field is continuously increasing. According to Yogesh Mudras, MD of Informa Markets India, at present India exports medicines worth about $55 billion. If seen in Indian rupees, this amount is more than Rs 4 lakh crore. By 2030, this figure may reach $130 billion and by 2047, India will be in a position to export medicines worth up to $450 billion. He said that the policies of American and European countries are very strict in the pharmaceutical business, but in the last few years, Indian companies have made inroads in these countries also.
